Here’s some ideas on how to get some attention and make the most of your app:
News-feed
You, the cinema, control the news-feed. Anyone who has gotten the app is surely interested in knowing what’s going on with your cinema. Sticking to the programme is fine, but there’s a lot more your app can do in this aspect!A news-feed can include anything related to your cinema, be it some news of a film in process that could be of interest or maybe a special ticket event you have planned. For example, the Cornerhouse cinema in Manchester has a very active news-feed, here’s what they do:
- updating it almost daily
- including a number of articles of interest such as new releases
- information on pre-booking
- film news regarding actors, directors and works in progress
Here’s a sample of the Cornerhouse’s feed:
And of the amount of information one of those posts have:
Updating your news-feed makes your app lively and an informative, useful little tool, not just for your weekly programme, but for the more involved part of the audience that would like to know more.Promotion:Now, there are a lot of ways to promote an app and there is a lot of use in getting people interested in keeping up-to-date with your cinema.Since you already know how interesting a news-feed can be and how useful the weekly programme is, you will want to let your frequent customers know they can always be in the loop via their iphone/ipad.You can do this in a number of ways:
- Online; every cinema has its own website, a homepage designed to accomodate important information. Why not not include a small article in the cinema news/information? Or perhaps an icon&hyperlink to the app store in the sidebar?
An example of how it could look in the sidebar:
Or maybe you’d like to give it its own page on your website?
- Other media; does your cinema publish fliers, programme guides, pamphlets or even a magazine? a well-placed advertisement could get more attention for your app
A good example got this is the cinema Traumpalast Esslingen, in Germany. They have the highest rate of check-ins per app, so their promotion must do something very right! As well as featuring the app on their website, they published a small article and advertisment for their app in their cinema group’s monthly magazine, “Abspann”.Here’s a look at their website and magazine advertisement.website:
