On SylC in August, iPhone Apps and the Congo (EN, DE)

Here is the latest news from the front!

Out of Africa
As most of you will already know, SylC’s project leader Rachael Castell is in Congo! Yes, she’s working on a documentary film about Pygmy artists’ theatre with the wonderful Congo Project . The film celebrates the Pygmy villagers’ astonishing spirit, their community, rituals, and struggle to protect their rain forest home! It’s an exciting adventure that will keep her away from SylC for a while, but you can follow the progress of this fantastic project on her blog. In the meantime, I will be taking care of the communication for SylC, and will be your point of contact from now on. So, if you have any questions, be my guest: here, or by email: lea@moviepilot.com !

SylC vs Apple- round 2

Apple is making things slightly more complicated than they should be. We used to push the apps to the App store from our company’s developer account. Now Apple demands that we create one account for each new cinema. The idea is that we (at moviepilot) manage this account on your behalf- so we are now asking you to sign a letter of attorney for that purpose. We are already processing the first registrations, with Casino Aschaffenburg and Universum Filmtheater in Germany. For those of you who are interested in our app, a “How to get my free iPhone App from SylC in x steps” page will soon to be up on our website. Watch this space!

My Cinema, its App and me
Dear App beneficiaries,
now that you have started using the app, you may have some questions and concerns. Or perhaps you would like to exchange thoughts and experiences? Well, we created this group with you in mind. What kind of Facebook news is worth pushing into the app with the #sylc, and how often? How can I encourage my audience to check in and what are good incentives? Which feature of the app should we definitely improve? This app was conceived to convert people’s interest in a movie into ticket sales, and your feedback is essential!
Once again, this week’s most downloaded apps are Traumpalast Esslingen app in Germany (93 times), and the Phoenix Square app in Leicester in the UK with 27 downloads. If you would like to know the download rates of your app, write me an email!

The website is finally aligning with our vision and becoming what it is meant to be; a place where Cinemas can communicate with each other, read all kind of interesting articles from enlightened experts and of course find information about the sylc project.
Speaking of interesting articles, check out Nicola More’s latest blog on the potential of social games in engaging audiences. As well as this guest blogger and social media expert Christy Dena kindly wrote us an article about event-based screenings and Ian Christie from Europa Cinemas gives us brilliant insight on sucessful film programming .

Useless on SylC.com (but funny)

This week’s fun stuff comes from France. Self-proclaimed sandwich artist Norman Thavaud, contemplates life’s little annoyances in his blog series. After making a splash on the web with “Norman fait des vidéos” he was sponsored by Orange to do a series on remarkable things happening in cinemas. Check out the now legendary Les Timides,  Norman’s take on shy people, and also Les Billingues where he riffs on billingual people. Hier gibt es jetzt das Neueste von der Front!

Aus Afrika
Wie die Meisten von euch bereits wissen, ist SylCs Projektleiterin Rachael Castell im Kongo. Sie arbeitet mit dem wundervollen „Congo Project“ an einer Dokumentation über das Künstlertheater der Pygmäen. Der Film zelebriert den besonderen Geist der pygmäischen Dorfbewohner, ihre Gemeinschaft, ihre Rituale und ihren Kampf für den Schutz ihrer Heimat im Regenwald! Ein aufregendes Abenteuer! Aber leider wird sie SylC deshalb für längere Zeit nicht zur Verfügung stehen. Aber ihr könnt die Fortschritte des Projektes auf ihrem Blog mitverfolgen.
In der Zwischenzeit werde ich mich um die Kommunikations-Angelegenheiten von SylC kümmern und eure Kontaktperson sein. Solltet ihr also irgendwelche Fragen haben, nur zu! Entweder hier oder per E-Mail: lea@moviepilot.com.

SylC vs. Apple – Runde Zwei

Uns stehen dann auch bald viele neue Apps zur Verfügung, insbesondere aus UK. Es müssen nur noch einige kleine organisatorische Probleme (mit Apple) aus dem Weg geräumt werden, und dann kann es auch schon losgehen. Ziel ist es, dass wir von moviepilot am Ende den Account für Sie verwalten, dafür müssten Sie aber eine Vollmacht unterschreiben, die uns das erlaubt.
Wir bearbeiten derzeit schon die ersten Registrierungen mit dem Casino Aschaffenburg und dem Universum Filmtheater in Deutschland. Für diejenigen von Ihnen, die Interesse an unserer App haben, wird bald eine „Wie bekomme ich meine Gratis iPhone App von SylC in x Schritten“ -Seite auf unserer Website zu finden sein. Also halten Sie die Augen offen!

Mein Kino, seine App und ich

Liebe App-Nutzer,

da ihr jetzt damit begonnen habt, die App zu benutzen, habt ihr womöglich Fragen und Probleme. Oder vielleicht möchtet ihr eure Ideen und Erfahrungen mit anderen austauschen? Nun, wir haben bei der Entwicklung dieser Gruppe an euch gedacht. Welche Arten von Facebook-News sollen mit dem #sylc in die App aufgenommen werden und wie oft? Wie können wir das Kinopublikum dazu ermuntern, in die App einzuchecken, was sind gute Anreize? Welches Feature der App sollten wir auf jeden Fall verbessern? Diese App wurde entwickelt, um das Interesse der Leute an Filmen in den Kartenverkäufen umzusetzen, und euer Feedback ist äußerst wichtig!

Apropos interessante Artikel: Schaut euch Nicola Mores neuesten Blog über das “Potential sozialer Spiele bei der Einbindung des Publikums” an. So wie diese Gastbloggerin und Expertin für soziale Medien hat auch Christy Dena freundlicherweise einen Artikel über “Event-basierte Screenings” für uns geschrieben, und Ian Christie von Europa Cinemas gibt uns einen brillanten Einblick in erfolgreiches Erstellen von Filmprogrammen.

Nutzlos für SylC.com (aber lustig)

Die lustigen Sachen dieser Woche kommen aus Frankreich. Der selbsternannte Sandwich-Künstler Norman Thavaud betrachtet in seiner Blog-Serie die kleinen Ärgernisse des täglichen Lebens. Nachdem er im Web mit „Norman fait des vidéos“ (Norman dreht Videos). Aufsehen erregte, wurde er von Orange gesponsert, um eine Reihe über außergewöhnliche Ereignisse in Kinos zu machen. Seht euch die mittlerweile legendären Les Timides, Normans Interpretation von schüchternen Menschen und auch Les Bilingues, mit denen er zweisprachige Menschen auf die Schippe nimmt, an. Seht hier Normans Sicht über die Vor- und Nachteile, wenn man sich den Abspann von Filmen anschaut und hier seinen Blickwinkel auf nervige Leute während des Kinobesuchs.
